Ranch Queen

All hail whoever brought the ranch.

A hand lifting a crispy wing out of a bowl of creamy, herb-flecked ranch, a thick strand of ranch still hanging from it

The dip they fight over at every table. Olive oil, real buttermilk, no seed oils, made in Texas.

Two queens, $9.99 a bottle, first batch in 2027. Nothing to pay today.

Thou shalt dip

Hear ye, hear ye.

Every table has a ruler: whoever showed up with the good ranch.

The Queen has spoken. These laws take effect the moment a bottle hits the table.

Double dipping is now legal.

The blue cheese stays in the fridge.

Go back in. Every wing comes out thick with herbs and buttermilk, and nobody at this table is going to stop you.

No crust shall be left behind.

Pizza bones used to go back in the box. Drag one through the Queen of Hearts and it becomes the best bite of the night. Somebody always fights for the last one.

Whoever brings the ranch gets the good seat.

Kickoff at noon. Bottle empty by halftime.

Four hands reaching across a game-day spread of wings, fries, celery, carrots and two bowls of ranch, one dunking a celery stick

Set her out before the coin toss. The wings go, the fries go, even the carrots go, and the couch is yours for the second half.

Hide the second bottle.

Set out three dips. Hers empties first.

Put her next to the store-bought stuff and watch which bowl needs a refill. Take the compliments like you made it yourself, then keep a spare in the back of the fridge, behind the pickles.

Long live the queen.

Every kingdom starts somewhere. Ours started in a Texas kitchen, with two people who put ranch on everything and got tired of reading the back of the bottle.

So Hudson and Cami made their own, with olive oil where the seed oils used to be. Cami is the queen on the label, and the first batch gets bottled right here in Texas.
